President's Report
One thing about electronic newsletters, there is often a regular supply of items to choose from. Anyone reading the media this past week will be aware of the proposed change of the Liberal Party candidacy for the seat of Epping in the forthcoming State elections. Our current Member for Epping, Damien Tudehope, has decided to seek pre-selection for the upper house so Dominic Perrottet can contest the seat of Epping. We wish to thank Damien for his support over this current parliamentary term, and if the media is correct, we wish him all the best in seeking a position in the Upper House.

Ross Walker

Commonwealth Bank at Beecroft is closing mid October
Shoppers at Beecroft would have read the notice at the front of the Commonwealth Bank in Hannah St Beecroft that the bank is closing. Those with accounts at the branch would have also received notification of the pending closure. The Trust has serious concerns that the closure of the last bank in Beecroft will have a detrimental effect on the economic viability of the shopping centre. When the other banks closed, many of the shop owners transferred their accounts to the last remaining bank; the CBA.
Shops often require a cash float every morning, but also need to bank their takings at the end of the day. The Post Office at Beecroft does not have the operational capacity to allow such regular banking functions the shop owners require. While the PO has a small safe for small transactions, it is designed to receive small deposits and not withdrawals. Also, while the CBA ATM will remain, for the moment, it will be for small cash withdrawals only.
Also the Trust receives a noticeable percentage of our subscriptions by cheque, indicating to us that many local residents still use cheque accounts and do not do electronic banking.

For the CBA to say residents can simply travel to a bank in an adjacent suburb is considered a poor option for many of our older residents. The Trust encourages everyone to write to the CEO of the CBA Matt Comyn at ceo@cba.com.au (mailto:ceo@cba.com.au) . We also encourage you to sign Damien Tudehope’s petition located in his update below. We have also attached two letters; one from the CEO of the CBA sent to all customers regarding the Royal Commission, and a reply sent by the President in response to the Beecroft branch closing.

Beecroft Station Gardens
The opening of Beecroft Station Gardens is set for Saturday 20 October at 10am. To mark the occasion there will be a ceremonial tree planting that will involve installing a large Hoop Pine as a symbolic replacement for the Bunya Pine that was removed as part of the ETTT project. This project involved the input of numerous community groups whose efforts will be acknowledged on the day. The event is open to all and feel free to pass this onto others. For the first time, all of the war memorials will be positioned together so future services can be conducted within the gardens and not out on the street.

Update from Parramatta Council
Parramatta Council has recently amended its online portal to be more user-friendly for residents. To find information on Council Meetings, simply click on COUNCIL (https://www.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au/) on the front page and then "Council Meetings" (https://www.cityofparramatta.nsw.gov.au/council/council-meetings) , on the left hand side. This improvement was a suggestion from a Trust resident, and we thank Council for accepting it.

Seats in Hannah Street Beecroft
Hornsby Council will be repairing and painting the wooden seats located in Hannah Street during October. Depending on the extent of the repairs and the painting preparation required, Council may need to remove the seats to complete the work off site at their workshop. However, Council will only take two seats at a time.
